Holiday Safety Tips
Traveling
If you’re planning to travel during the holiday season, be sure to keep your travel plans off your social media networks. Never post where you’re going, when you’re leaving, or when you’ll be back. This information is dangerous because it gives burglars the information they need to break into your home while you are away.
Lighting
Another great way to keep your home safer during the holiday season is through home automation. Add a motion sensor light or use smart plugs and smart lightbulbs. You can use an app to control lights, TVs, and more from anywhere. You can also schedule these devices in your home to come on and turn off at specified times to make your home look occupied.
Protect Your Packages
Package thieves like to strike when there’s an unprotected package on your front porch. This year has been a record year for online shopping, giving these thieves more opportunities to strike. We recommend a video doorbell camera or outdoor security cameras to deter porch pirates. .It’s also a good idea to have your delivery people leave the packages in specific places, out of sight. Some online retailers even offer delivery inside your home or delivery lockers.
If you are using a system like Amazon, set your alerts so that you know when a package has been delivered. Remove it from the porch as soon as possible to remove the temptation.
You don’t just need to worry about deliveries though……. We all know that prettily wrapped packages under your tree with bows and matching paper add to your holiday decor, but make sure you don’t leave your wrapped gifts in sight of your windows.
