Thankful Thursday Pets

#ThankfulThursday

Thankful Thursday is a great way to pause each week and give thanks. Especially right now when it seems like everything is going crazy around us, it is important to hit pause and express our gratitude, and there’s no better time than Thankful Thursday!

This week we are expressing our thanks for our pets in our lives. These little, and big friends help keep us sane in our craziness. We at Beishir are predominately dog people, with a few cats among us. At last count we were 21 dogs, and 4 cats. No comments on birds, fish, or pet rocks, but I’m sure there are some of those mixed in.

Did you know????

72.9 Million US households have pets. That is 64% of all households in the United States. There is a reason that so many people have pets. Statistics show a myriad of physical and mental health benefits to owning a pet. People that own pets are less likely to suffer from depression, have lower blood pressure, higher levels of dopamine and serotonin levels (fell good hormones), and even lower cholesterol levels. While dogs and cats make up the highest level of pet owners in the US, it’s shown that even watching fish in an aquarium can help reduce tension and lower pulse rate. (That explains the aquariums in hospital and dentist waiting rooms.)

At the beginning of this pandemic the animal shelters were overwhelmed with requests to foster and adopt the animals in their care. It was finally a time for people to stop using the excuse “we just don’t have time”. One article stated: “As Coronavirus spreads across the U.S., Americans in some of the country's hardest-hit regions have stepped up to foster and adopt animals, keeping them out of shelters. Shelters and animal advocacy organizations with facilities in California, Michigan, New Jersey, Connecticut, New York, Texas, Washington, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, and North Carolina said they were overwhelmed by the outpouring of community support.” It just seemed that the idea of passing this time at home with a companion was an overwhelmingly pleasing idea for all.

Here we are with some of our furry friends. We’d love to see you with yours if you want to share!
